Every program at Columbia Youth Ballet is built on a progressive training philosophy. From the youngest dancers discovering the joy of movement to advanced students preparing for a professional career, our curriculum develops technique, artistry, and discipline at every stage.
Preparatory
Discovering the joy of dance
Ages 2.5 – 5An engaging introduction to the world of ballet for our youngest dancers. Through creative movement, storytelling, and music, children develop coordination, balance, musicality, and gross motor skills in a safe, nurturing environment — all while having fun.
- Pre-Ballet (ages 2.5–4): One class per week
- Primary Ballet (ages 4–5): One to two classes per week
- Focus on coordination, musicality & creative expression
Pre-Professional
Building a solid classical foundation
Ages 6 – 13The heart of our training program. Students develop proper alignment, turnout, and a clean classical technique through progressive levels. Intermediate students are introduced to pointe work alongside conditioning and character dance to build strength and versatility.
- Beginner (6–7.5 yrs): Two ballet classes per week
- Pre-Intermediate & Intermediate (8–13 yrs): Three ballet classes, one pointe class (intermediate), one modern class, plus conditioning & character
- Emphasis on correct alignment, musicality & quality of movement
Where Technique Meets Artistry
Our Vaganova-based curriculum develops not only strong dancers, but expressive artists prepared for the stage and beyond.
