Three Divisions. One Vision.

Every program at Columbia Youth Ballet is built on a progressive training philosophy. From the youngest dancers discovering the joy of movement to advanced students preparing for a professional career, our curriculum develops technique, artistry, and discipline at every stage.

Division I

Preparatory

Discovering the joy of dance

Ages 2.5 – 5

An engaging introduction to the world of ballet for our youngest dancers. Through creative movement, storytelling, and music, children develop coordination, balance, musicality, and gross motor skills in a safe, nurturing environment — all while having fun.

  • Pre-Ballet (ages 2.5–4): One class per week
  • Primary Ballet (ages 4–5): One to two classes per week
  • Focus on coordination, musicality & creative expression

Division II

Pre-Professional

Building a solid classical foundation

Ages 6 – 13

The heart of our training program. Students develop proper alignment, turnout, and a clean classical technique through progressive levels. Intermediate students are introduced to pointe work alongside conditioning and character dance to build strength and versatility.

  • Beginner (6–7.5 yrs): Two ballet classes per week
  • Pre-Intermediate & Intermediate (8–13 yrs): Three ballet classes, one pointe class (intermediate), one modern class, plus conditioning & character
  • Emphasis on correct alignment, musicality & quality of movement
2–5 classes / week

Division III

Professional

Training the complete artist

Ages 14+

Our most advanced level, designed for serious students with a solid technical foundation. Classes emphasize complex combinations at performance tempo, artistic interpretation, and the refinement of individual expression. Students study classical variations, partnering, and are prepared for professional auditions and competitions.

  • Three ballet classes per week including pointe & variations
  • One modern dance class per week
  • Conditioning & character classes mandatory
  • Performance and competition opportunities
4–5 classes / week
